Ibanez TS808HW Tube Screamer Effects Pedal : Review

TS808HW Tube Screamer

A special version

From beginners to advanced guitarists the TS808 is one of the most used overdrives so Ibanez has produced this hand-wired version. Controls are the same of all the models of the classic version. The difference is the circuitry. Ibanez provided, for this model, a JRC4558D chip and some high-end Japanese cables, MOGAMI OEC AWG21. The presence of the true bypass guarantees transparence when the effect isn't active. Well, now we can see the main characteristics of this pedal.

  • Obviously, here the user can adjust the quantity of the effect.

  • Tone
  • Fundamentally, the equalization is the main difference with the standard model, obviously, we are speaking about the reissue. In the original model the equalization works mainly on the mids, while in this case it modifies the low frequencies. The difference is fundamental, and produces a much more warm Overdrive.

General opinion

The TS808HW cannot be considered, certainly, a cheap device, but it doesn't disappoint. The TS808 is an excellent product, but this special version is really the top. This is a great Overdrive, with its character and a delightful sound. Warm, full and smooth. If we want we can consider it a modded model, directly by Ibanez. It adds to the qualities of the standard version many other important characteristics, such as a remarkable transparence, thanks to the true bypass, a full respect of the original guitar signal, and a greater presence of low frequencies. As regards the price, 380 euros, it is remarkable, certainly, but this is a great product. In my opinion, the definitive Overdrive.

    DL-8

Really valid, but the HardWire series is well-known. The excellent electronics makes it transparent and respectful of the original guitar tone. The Tails switch is very useful. This pedal is not cheap, but the price is absolutely justified.

    RC-300

Compared with the RC-50, the front panel is more simple, less confused. All the elements are arranged in an intuitive order and everything is clear and immediate. The level of each track can be regulated with a fader. XLR with Phantom Power.

This pedal can be used like a pre-amp, if your amplifier is solid state, and will warm a bit the sound. In addition the FDR-1 provides Vibrato and Reverb. It can be also a perfect solution for direct recording. In this context it makes really a good job.
