Digitech RP90 Multieffects Review

All the necessary

Digitech has equipped the RP90 with all the typical guitar effects and with some others derived from famous pedals, like the Boss CE-2, the Dunlop Cry Baby, the Digitech Whammy and the Vox Clyde McCoy.

Pickup simulation

  • SH
  • The single-coil will emulate an humbucker.

  • HS
  • The humbucker will sound like a single-coil.

It can be controlled via the expression pedal.

  • Dunlop Cry Baby
  • One of the most famous in the market.

  • Vox Clyde McCoy
  • Another emulation.

  • Full Range
  • A classic.

It can increase the sustain and avoid signal distortions. It features a control for the level. By turning up this control the RP90 will add more sustain and compression.

Acoustic guitar simulator

The result is rather good, considering the difficulty.

Nine settings for each distortion, so to vary the tone of the effect. In addition, many amps.

  • Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamer
  • An Overdrive. Its main characteristic is that it can boost the sound without affecting the original tone.

  • DOD 250
  • Boss DS-1
  • The typical sound of the '80s Rock. At present Boss produces a Reissue, but the result is rather poor.

  • DigiTech Grunge
  • I have to say that when i tested this pedal i didn't love it. It is rather digital and delivers a thin sound, but it is cheap. My opinion is that it is suitable to Metal, not to Grunge, but it is a personal opinion.

  • DigiTech Death Metal
  • It boosts the gain at the maximum level. So, this patch can be useful for Metal or Hard Rock.

  • Electro Harmonix Big Muff Pi

3-Band EQ

Three separate settings for each frequency range: Bass, mids and treble.

Noise Gate

The RP90 features all the necessary to avoid noise and signal distortions.

  • Auto Swell
  • It can vary the attack time and provides nine different settings.

  • Silencer
  • It works while you are not playing. It provides nine different settings.

  • DigiTech Dual Chorus
  • Boss CE-2 Chorus
  • Tremolo
  • Flanger
  • Panner
  • Phaser
  • Rotary Speaker
  • Step Filter
  • Envelope Filter
  • A dynamic Wah that depends on how hard you play.

  • Vibrato
  • Digitech Ya Ya
  • It combines a Wah and a Flanger. It can be controlled with the expression pedal.

  • Auto Ya
  • Like its name suggests, this is the equivalent of the previous, but the expression pedal is not necessary.

  • Detune
  • Pitch Shifter
  • DigiTech Whammy

  • Tape
  • Digital
  • Analog
  • Pong

  • Fender Twin
  • Hall
  • Room

Amp models and Cabinets

12, ready to use. Digitech has provided the RP90 with some of the most famous amps, such as the '57 Fender Tweed Deluxe, the '65 Fender Blackface, the '63 Vox AC30, the Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier or the '68 Marshall Super lead (Plexi).

Patches and DSP

50 are for the user, so they can be edited. 50 are preset. The DSP is the new Audio DNA2, a powerful and advanced processor.

General opinion

Well. The RP90, at a very good price, provides many quality effects, with the addition of some possible settings; 100 ready to use patches; a useful drum machine with 40 patterns; the well known Digitech quality. My opinion is positive. A good product at an excellent price. For a beginner, a perfect solution.

Effects (Pedals and Floorboards)

  • Distortion | Ibanez

Compared to the original version, it adds 2 switches to increase middle frequencies and overall volume. Substantially, the aim was an increase of the flexibility. The result is valid and the price is absolutely coherent with the value of the pedal.

  • DD-3
  • Delay | Boss

A very appreciated Delay and, certainly, of great quality. First of all, this Boss pedal provides all the necessary for a good result. Further it is really transparent, thanks to a real bypass. In addition, it is simple and silent. 1 Input and 2 Outputs.

  • G5
  • Floorboards | Zoom

An important feature is a switch that divides the signal between the effect and the analog sound of the guitar. It is flexible and complete and with all the modern features that today are necessary.
