Digitech RP500 Multieffects Review

RP500

Specifications

It is equipped with 24-bit A/D and D/A converters and provides a 44.1kHz sampling frequency. A DNA2 DSP processor provides effects and emulations. We will speak about this later. It is equipped with two inputs. The first, 1/4", is for the guitar while the second, 1/8" Stereo, is for a CD, an MP3 player or any other source. For the outputs it is equipped with two 1/4" and two XLRs, balanced. The maximum output is 10dBu for the 1/4" jacks and 16dBu for the XLRs. In addition, obviously, there is a stereo jack, 1/8" for 13.6mW, for headphones. The USB port, 1.1, provides the connection to the PC.

Amps and Cabinets emulator

Really a large collection. Marshall, Fender, Laney, Roland and many others with various solutions for the speakers. It's difficult that you dont find the best set for your needs and your guitar.

Included softwares

It includes, in the box, Cubase LE4 and X-Edit. Cubase LE4 is a multitrack recording software with many advanced functions. X-Edit is for the editing of the patches on the PC. Fast, easy and comfortable.

General opinion

Absolutely positive. Effects and emulations are of great quality. The CD/MP3 input and the two XLR outputs are an important added value. It features also a 20 seconds looper, with the Overdubbing. Always useful and instructive. It is really a user friendly product, but all the necessary for the guitarist is present. Obviously, for an expert musician it can be too much limiting. But this isn't its natural context. All the Distortions are based on rather famous pedals and, fundamentally, they work well. The 24-bit converters guarantee a quality signal. The RP500 price, about 200 euros, is good. As a whole, this floorboard is worth how much it costs.

The two 12AX7 tubes work very well and generate a great tone.. All work through an high quality chip. The pre-amp section features two channels and the editing is fast and easy, thanks to many knobs for the parameters.

The pickup simulation provides 2 choices: SH and HS, obviously single-coil and humbucker. The drum machine, interesting in a so compact device, has 40 patterns at user disposal. A good multi-effects at an affordable price.

The main characteristic of this pedal is the flexibility. Controls are efficient and some ready-to-use presets expand the possibilities of the guitarist. Rather expensive, but it doesn't disappoint, and makes really a good work.
