Digitech TL-2 Effects Pedal : Review

TL-2

For professional players

The HardWire Series is designed for professional players. Quality, reliability and a good sound. These are the most important characteristics of the HardWire devices.

All the necessary

The equalization section is complete, with 4 controls on 2 knobs. Low/High adjusts bass and treble, while the Mid knob features a control for the frequency, with a 200 Hz to 5.0 kHz possible range. In addition it provides the Level and, obviously, the Gain.

Voicing switch

An interesting and effective function is a 2-way switch for the Distortion.

Tight and Loose
  • Tight
  • It provides an articulated low-end response with smooth high frequencies, perfect for aggressive, modern playing styles.

  • Loose
  • It creates a thick heavy low end that is suitable to rhythm playing. Perhaps, the amount of low frequencies, with this setting, is excessive, therefore the sound turns out a bit too fuzzy, but this is my personal opinion.

Opinion

Dialing in a good tone is easy and fast. It works well and the sound is of quality. I have no doubts on this. Yes, Metal is the only genre you can play. Forget to use it in other contexts, but if you send it in a good amp it is an awesome device. The bypass is a real bypass, so, when the TL-2 is off, it is transparent and doesn't colour the guitar tone. The price, 99 Euros, is good.

Two channels: the first is an Overdrive, while the second is a Distortion. The bright/save switch is really curious and useless. A slight hum can be present, but only with some pickups.

Thanks to the use of a Compact Flash card it can store up to 6 hours of audio. This looper isn't a cheap product, but the quality costs, and all the necessary for a good work is present. It is equipped with the USB.
