Boss RV-5 Effects Pedal : Review

RV-5

Easy but versatile

Notwithstanding the remarkable simplicity, it is equipped with only 4 knobs, it turns out rather flexible. Let's see the available controls.

E. Level

Like always, the general volume.

Tone

The equalization. At the minimum value the sound will be rather warm. On the contrary, at the maximum, it will be brighter.

Time

It modifies the length, the duration. Substantially, the decadence period.

Mode

6 different options at the user disposal.

  • Modulate
  • It adds a modulation to Hall.

  • Gate
  • It is much compressed and produces a rather particular sound.

  • Room
  • It simulates the reverberation of a small room.

  • Hall
  • Like the previous, but in a larger room.

  • Plate
  • It produces a metallic sound, with a great high end.

  • Spring
  • The classic Accutronics. I have to say that the result is really valid.

Sound and conclusions

Much silent and, certainly, it produces a quality sound. The Mode knob makes the RV-5 a good solution in many different contexts. Spring and Hall are, in my opinion, the best available options. It isn't cheap, but it works very well. A good Boss pedal for the Reverb.

    RP55

It is equipped with a compressor, a noise gate and an equalizer. 80 patches: 40 preset, and 40 for the user. The 24-bit converters and the presence of the new AudioDNA chip testify the modern electronics. No parameters editing.

    MS-70CDR MultiStomp

A very interesting Zoom pedal with an excellent quality/price ratio. Each effect provides some parameters that can be easily edited. The display shows a graphical representation of the parameters values.

  • Multi Chorus

    Multi Chorus

With the built-in speaker emulator the Multi Chorus can be connected directly to a mixer or a recorder. The AudioDNA processor produces up to 16 voices. The Voice knob is useful and efficient, and gives a good versatility.
