Boss GT-6 Multieffects Review

GT-6

A much appreciated product

It features the well-known and efficient COSM technology, so it provides 30 amp models, a good number of classic effects, such as Distortion, Overdrive and Wah, and some novelties like Uni-V and De-Fretter. Boss discontinued this floorboard, but it is much appreciated from many guitarists, so its price, also if of a second-hand unit, is rather high at the moment of this review.

The Digital Output

This feature is the demonstration of the professional approach of the Japanese company to the project of this product. The digital output, coaxial and with 24-bit converters, allows an all-digital connection with a recorder, for example. Obviously, if it is equipped with a compatible input. I have to say that generally this isn't a very useful characteristic for a guitarist, but it can be interesting for someone.

15 Distortions and 5 Wah types

The effects of the GT-6 are certainly of good quality, particularly the Wah, well modulated and flexible, but not only. The classic effects for the guitar, Distortions, Overdrives, Delays and Choruses, are appreciable, perhaps they are not always the best, i have to say, but they make their job. In addition, as we have said at the beginning of this review, there are some novelties, like the Uni-V and the De-Fretter, much used in the '60s. They are really particular and create an atmosphere that in some contexts can be much interesting and unusual. As regards the memory locations there are 340 patches, 140 for the user and 200 presets. There are also two sections with many different options suitable to various genres and styles. Let's see the list.

30 Amp Models

The COSM Technology is famous for its ability in the amp modelling. This floorboard puts 30 new amp models, both vintage and modern, at the user disposal.

All is immediatly available

The front panel features 15 knobs for the parameters editing. The philosophy is, clearly, that everything must be fast, easy and immediate like with a pedal.

Final opinion

When Boss announced the GT-6 it was really a good product, but now, on the market, there are many new devices, by Boss too, and the street price, approximately 230 euros, is in my opinion too much high. Generally, effects are of good quality, also some amp models, but distortions are not the best. Appreciable, but not the best. Perhaps it is a problem that depends on my personal taste, this must be clear. Anyhow, with the time the price will diminish and the GT-6, at a maximum cost of 150 euros, can be a good purchase.

    JamMan Solo XT

Compared with the previous version, it can be synchronized with one or more units, and features a more complete set of inputs and outputs. A/D and D/A Conversion: 24 bit. Sample Rate: 44.1 kHz, 16-bit.

    ML-2 Metal Core

If you are looking for something that makes your sound powerful and with a great attack, the Boss ML-2 is the distortion pedal for you. It will create a great lows emphasis and a sharp attack.

  • DA-2
  • Distortion | Boss
    DA-2

An excellent device that is equipped with a new Roland technology for the Distortion creation. The DA-2 doesn't deliver an high-gain sound, so it's not suitable to Metal or Hard Rock, but for all the rest is a very good pedal.
