Zoom H2n Handy Recorder : Review

H2n

The new generation

The H2 has been an incredible success, so it doesn't surprise if Zoom proposes a new version that publicizes like the new standard in the sector. This new product has some revolutionary characteristics that we will analyze in this review.
Well, let's see all the functions and the specs.

The most important innovation

The Mid-Side function. This technology works with two mics. The first captures the sound directly in front of you, while the second from your left and right. The user can regulate the level (the width of the stereo field). The result is an incredible flexibility.
Obviously it can work also with the classic X/Y configuration.

Five mics

5 capsules that provide 4 operative modes:

  • Mid-Side (MS)
  • X/Y (90°)
  • 2 channels
  • 4 channels

The two modes Mid-Side and X/Y can be used together, so to create a 360° angle.

3 formats

Files can be in WAV format, at 24bit/96kHz, in MP3 and, in addition, is present the support of the BWF. A BWF file can have up to 99 cue points, useful for playback and editing.

The new user interface

The LCD display comes with a good resolution (128 x 64 pixel) and the new user interface provides an easy navigation. Everything is fast and easy.
