Pop and Rock Vocals

The course starts with the analysis of some of the most important techniques that a singer must handle: inflection, emphasis, dynamics, nuance and breath support.
The learning of these techniques is not accidental but it proceeds chronologically. It starts from the roots of the '50s Rock, that are Blues and Country, continues with the '80s music, such as Folk-Rock and Punk/New Wave, and reaches our days.
Like other Berklee online courses, students will learn vocal techniques through a great quantity of audio and video material of many artists like Janis Joplin, Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys, Elton John, Tori Amos, Jeff Buckley, Tina Turner, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Robert Plant, Radiohead, Gwen Stefani.

Jazz Voice

The main aim of this course is the learning of the key characteristics of Jazz singing.
The course starts with a comparison between Jazz vocal style and modern music styles and it continues with the study of many Blues artists that influenced Jazz and modern music.
In a second moment the course analyzes some vocal techniques such as vocal inflection, interpretation, dynamics and how to improvise.
As regards the artists that are analyzed in this course we must remember Carmen McRae, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Lonnie Johnson, Bessie Smith,, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, Mel Tormé, Frank Sinatra.

Voice Technique

This course is a starting point, a basic course to learn the fundamental vocal techniques, for instance how to get a good breath control, how to expand range and expression, how to warm-up voice, how to use microphone and how to sing in different styles.
