Review
Reissue of the famous Black Face. A large tubes number, for the sound generation and for Vibrato and Reverb effects. A complete equalization section, with additional controls for the management of the two effects (Vibrato and Reverb), completely all tube. One 12" speaker, a perfect Reissue of the original Jensen speaker, with ceramic magnets. There is everything for a great amplifier. Let's see.
Tubes and Speaker
4 x 12AX7, 2 x 12AT7, 2 x 6V6 e 1 x 5AR4 rectifier tube.
A large tubes number for the sound generation and for Vibrato and Reverb. Let's say it immediately. The '65 Reverb Deluxe sounds in a shocking way. Beautiful and extraordinarily flexible. The 12" speaker, exact reissue of the original Jensen, equipped with ceramic magnets, works perfectly, supported, obviously, by an entirely all-tube sound generation, close to the perfection.
Controls
The '65 Deluxe Reverb owns 2 channels. Normal and Vibrato. Let's see the controls.
Normal Channel: Volume, Treble and Bass
The controls are accurate. Much sensitive to small variations and intrinsically connected between them. Interdependent. This, like always, must be considered, as the reaction of the single control is never the same, but it depends on the position and the level of the other controls.
Vibrato Channel: Volume, Treble, Bass
As above. Accurate, sensitive and incisive controls.
Reverb
Control for the Reverb amount, but that generates, as you rotate the knob, in my opinion, also a different frequency modulation.
Vibrato: Speed and Intensity
With small, small variations of this control you can obtain excellent results. Much sensitive.
Sound
Clean Sound
The clean sound is sweet, slightly melodious. Absolutely close to the legendary Fender clean sound, that the '65 Deluxe Reverb produces like you expect. Harmonics are many and full. Sustain is extended, alive. Beautiful. Playing this monster is a pleasure.
Distortion
The distortion is up to the clean sound. Rich, full-bodied. Full of mids. Obviously, when we speak about sounds, above all on a so amplifier, we must consider the extreme flexibility allowed from the equalization controls. The extreme quality of the circuitry of the '65 Deluxe Reverb makes this guitar amp extremely flexible. Few touches to the controls can drastically vary the sound, both the clean and the distortion, and it's easy to obtain what you want. The result is always satisfying. Even better, it's fabulous. I must say that I am fallen in love with the '65 Deluxe Reverb. Perfect. Truly beautiful.
As regards to the genre that you can play with this amp, what can I say?. When you get a so instrument you can play what you want!
Conclusions
Like saying previously, this amplifier made me fall in love with it. The sound generated from the various tubes of the '65 Deluxe Reverb is perfectly returned from the excellent Jensen C12-K. The clean sounds are the maximum that you can obtain, in my opinion. But also the distorted sounds are excellent. The incisiveness of the equalization controls and the quality of the circuitry, make this amp much flexible, able to go from Jazz to Hard Rock with no problems. According to my personal opinion, the '65 Deluxe Reverb price (1468 Euro) is absolutely justified. The quality costs. Also The class.
